International School for Primary Education (INS) Bucharest

INS is organised in year groups and the child’s date of birth will determine which year group they belong to. An academic year starts on 1st September and ends on 31st August. The children move through the school in these groups, they do not move ’up’ (or ’down’) depending on ‘ability’.

There are currently five age ranges within the school and children will be allocated to a colour group:

Rising 2s:

Punctuality
The school day starts at 9 am. All children should be in their classroom at that time.

The first 10 minutes of each session are essential for the child. In this time the teacher talks about the learning objectives for the day. Latecomers affect not just their own education but that of the rest of the class.
If there is a situation which is unavoidable please inform the office as soon as possible.
Telephone 021-3803535 or 021-3803636

Please plan to arrive in the classroom between   8.50 am. and 9 am. Please note that you are responsible for your child until handed over to a member of staff. Children should not be left unattended.

Collection of children on time is also very important. At 12 noon staff have to organise lunches and at 3 pm there are often meetings or training courses which the staff need to attend. Children should not be left at the school after these times, it causes great distress to the child when everyone else has gone and they are left.
Repeated latecomers will be asked to pay a supervision fee based on the hourly rate.

Staying longer at school
We offer morning sessions (9 am-12 noon) and full day sessions (9 am-3 pm). If you start with mornings you can ask to go to full days at any time. If you are not sure, you can add one full day at a time to see if your child is ready to cope. As this is a school, teaching goes on throughout the day and children do not sleep in the afternoon.

Lunches
The fee for a full day is an inclusive fee which covers morning snack, lunch and a light afternoon snack.
If required, a lunch may be provided from home.

Snack
During the morning session the children have a small, simple snack. This is provided by the school and includes a drink of water or milk and, for example, a piece of toast or savoury biscuit. At other times the class food preparation activity (part of the curriculum) may provide the snack or a snack may be chosen to support the learning objective. For example, if the children were looking at shapes they may cut out circles from carrots or apples or cut triangular sandwiches. Thursday is fruit day and we ask that each child brings one item of fruit to be cut up and shared with all of the group.
