International School for Primary Education (INS) Bucharest
back to mainThe Curriculum
INS provides a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which addresses the developmental needs of the whole child. We refer to it as an holistic curriculum. It is based on best practice in UK Schools, with influences from around the world, enriched and adapted for an International Community.

INS has over 130 children currently ranging from two to eight years old. English is used throughout the school. As most children have English as a second language it is essential that the curriculum is not language based. The distinctive early years curriculum allows equality of access as children experience the concepts in a practical, 'hands on' way. The curriculum used at the school is planned within the following areas of learning and experience: Language & Literacy, Mathematical, Scientific, Aesthetic & Creative, Physical, Human & Social, Spiritual & Moral, ICT (Information & Communication Technology). All staff have long term, medium term and short term plans with learning objectives relevant to their children's ages and stages of development. There is a cycle of planning, implementation, evaluation and assessment. Records are kept using observations as an evidence base.

Staff have a ongoing training programme which includes 10 specific training days per year. These are thoroughly planned with additional input from specialist speakers where necessary. There is a commitment from the school to a rolling programme of UK visits to ensure first hand experience of an Early Years curriculum. In addition to this, INS encourages short term sponsorships from UK practitioners to give opportunities to experience working abroad and promote positive links for dissemination of good practice.

In this way INS continues to improve on previous best.
